Short introduction
My name is Ans van der Ploeg, and I have been working at Erasmus MC since 1985. Until July 1, 2025, I served as Head of the Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases and as lead of the Center for Rare Diseases. I am now retired, but I remain involved with the center as an advisor and continue to participate in ongoing research.
Work experience & education
I graduated in 1985 and earned my PhD at the Department of Clinical Genetics at Erasmus MC in 1989. I then specialized in pediatrics at Erasmus MC Sophia and Juliana Children’s Hospital. Since 1998, I have been registered as a neonatologist and since 2004 as a pediatric metabolic specialist. Until July 2025, I served as Head of the Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases. In 2009, I was appointed Professor of Pediatrics with a special focus on lysosomal storage diseases. From 2019, I was also lead of the Center for Rare Diseases. Additionally, I served as vice-coordinator of the European Reference Network for Metabolic Diseases (MetabERN), coordinator of the Lysosomal subnetwork of MetabERN, and co-chair of the European Pompe Consortium. Following my retirement, I stepped down from these roles but remain involved with the center and ongoing research.
