Specialists

Patients with Pompe disease are seen by different specialists.

Children are primarily seen by the metabolic pediatrician and child neurologist and adult patients are primarly seen by the neurologist In addition to the primary care giver, nurses, nurse specialists, dieticians, physical therapists, psychologists and social workers are closely involved in the care for patients with Pompe disease. Sometimes symptoms occur that fall under the knowledge and expertise of a specialist other than the primary care giver. Examples include an ENT doctor for swallowing complaints and a pulmonologist for breathing problems.

And then there are the specialists that you as a patient will not come into contact with, but nevertheless are an important part of the team. These include the lab specialists of the diagnostic lab, the basic scientists of the research lab, the scheduling coordinators, project managers, secretarial office and the staff of the hospital pharmacy.
