Expert on porphyrias
At the Center for Porphyria, medical specialists, researchers and educators work together to provide porphyria patients with the best possible care.
Due to the center's high-quality knowledge, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport recognized the Center for Porphyria as a national expert center. This recognition makes the Center for Porphyria the point of contact for all porphyria patients in the Netherlands.
In close collaboration with regional treatment centers, the Center for Porphyria provides the most optimal care to all patients. Our expert center provides advice to the local metabolic pediatricians and metabolic internists and is a point of reference for patients, their families and other stakeholders. On top of this, our center plays an import role in the national and international research field on porphyrias.
Although the local specialists at the regional treatment centers are the main responsible for direct patient care, we recommend that all porphyria patients in the Netherlands visit our center at least once every year for a check-up.
