Dr. Désirée van Haaften-Visser (D.Y.)

Short introduction

After completing my pediatric training, I began my subspecialization in pediatric metabolic medicine at the Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases at Erasmus MC. We treat children with a wide variety of metabolic disorders. With great enthusiasm, I am committed to supporting children and their parents as well as possible, both before and after a diagnosis is made. My dream is that more and more children with a metabolic disorder will be able to look forward to a bright future.

Work experience & education

I studied medicine at Utrecht University, after which I worked as a junior doctor in Pediatrics at the St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein and later at the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital in Utrecht. In 2011, I began my PhD trajectory in the departments of Cell Biology and Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital. In 2016, I started my pediatric training at the Maasstad Hospital and Erasmus MC Sophia in Rotterdam. I have been a pediatrician since 2022, after which I began my subspecialization in pediatric metabolic medicine. I completed this subspecialization in 2025 and currently work as a metabolic pediatrician at the Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases.
